Nectarines are the popular “shaved peach” or “fuzzless peach”. Understandably, some have incorrectly guessed that a “nectarine” was due to the crossing of plum and peach. However, it is simply a variety of peach absent of the fuzz. Yet, commercially, they are commonly sold as if they were a separate fruit.
